Organisational Governance

MTWAC is a registered Aboriginal organisation with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC), under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act). It is governed by a Board of Directors under the organisations Rule Book.

In November 2024, MTWAC was named the winner of the Indigenous Governance Awards – Category 2 – in recognition of it being an outstanding example of Indigenous-led small to medium incorporated organisations. MTWAC was the first Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation to ever receive the award.

Circle of Elders

The Circle of Elders is an invitational group of highly respected and regarded Elders within the organisation of whom the Board of Directors seek advice and guidance on matters of decision making; including but not limited to authentication (ratifying) of family trees used for memberships applications. The Circle of Elders have a recognised “Traditional Authority” within the community and organisation through knowledge of traditional cultural practices, laws and customs, as well as, and strong family connections
