Cultural Experiences

Sharing Culture, Building Understanding

MTWAC offers opportunities for organisations, schools, community groups, and individuals to engage with Tasmanian Aboriginal culture through respectful learning and shared understanding. These experiences are guided by community knowledge, cultural practice, and a deep connection to Country.

We provide:

  • Welcome to Country
  • Cultural experiences for school camps
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity training

These opportunities invite participants to learn through connection, deepen their understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and history, and gain insight into the continuing presence of Tasmanian Aboriginal people today.

Welcome to Country

A Welcome to Country is an important cultural protocol that recognises the enduring connection of Tasmanian Aboriginal people to Country. Delivered by a recognised Traditional Owner or Elder, it offers a respectful welcome to visitors while acknowledging the history, culture, and continuing presence of the First Peoples of this place. Welcome to Country ceremonies can be provided for events, conferences, gatherings, and special occasions.

Cultural Experience for School Camps

Enhance your school camp with a meaningful and engaging cultural experience delivered by MTWAC. Our programs provide students with the opportunity to connect with local Aboriginal culture through interactive activities, storytelling, and hands-on learning.

Led by knowledgeable community members, sessions can include cultural talks, traditional practices, bush tucker insights, and an introduction to local history and connection to Country.

These experiences are designed to be educational, respectful, and memorable, helping students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and heritage.

Cultural Awareness & Sensitivity Training

This 2-day training program provides the participant with knowledge and insights regarding the history and culture of Tasmanian First Nations people while understanding the contemporary challenges they are facing today. MTWAC cultural sensitivity and awareness training aims to educate non-Aboriginal people about aspects of Tasmanian First Nations beliefs and practices, past and present, in a safe and respectful manner including the opportunity to walk on country.
